Bing Surfboards Bing Copeland started surfing at age 13 introduced to the sport by Dale Velzy. He spent much of his youth hanging out in Velzy's surf shop where he would glue balsa blanks together, shape wood fins and repair boards for Velzy. After living in Hawaii for a few years Bing opened his first surf shop and became a major surfboard manufacturer. He had first rate shapers working for him like Dick Mobley & Mike Eaton. In the late 60s 'no label' surfboards became popular and the major surfboard manufacturers started to struggle. It was at this time that Bing questioned his future in the business. With a growing drug scence in Hermosa Beach Bing and his young family decided to move to Idaho. In 1974 G&S took licence of Bing surfboard with Mike Eaton carrying on Bings shapes through the 80s and 90s. In 2000 Bing was approached by Matt Calvani of Shoreline Glassing who now produce his boards and so the legend continues.....
